Meet the Ochoa Family.
In December of 2014, my son, Dublin Black, was diagnosed with autism.
It was that moment that a light started radiating through the windows of my family's home.
That autistic light has transformed us.
Because of that light, we will never be the same.
Never do we want to forget who we were.
Never do we want to forget how we became.
This, the Autism Collection, is my attempt to track that light.
To gather and record our realizations, our experiences, our accomplishments and our pain.
To memorialize the ways in which his light has helped us truly see how to love each other and others we meet deeply.
Thank you for helping us hone, share, and remember our light!
This is our story.
FEATURED
In case you missed it, here are some of my favorite stories.
An Imagined Story
Imagine a story about a child with disabilities who could be anything, because he had access to everything.
Eating Nouns
As parents and teachers, one important lesson that my husband and I have learned about language acquisition is our species likes to use words that express what we want. Words that don't reflect what we want don't register.
Naked King
It took a very long time for my parents to figure out how to get me to wear a bathing suit in public, or even at home.
2019-20 BEGINS!
...and so it begins!!!
May the universe give my little walking souls more opportunities to hone their little talking voices this next academic year.
