Ego

The ego is an ugly thing isn't it?

As soon at IT becomes aware of ITSELF, IT begins to position ITSELF above others, ungraciously bumping into "them" and evaluating "them" from a cloud that forgets about the climb that it takes each of us uniquely to wrangle a skill set, a goal.

The ego is often unaware of others' circumstances--the cultural, environmental, familial, and physiological variables that shape how quickly they (or their children) make it to their own clouds. IT hangs out in gossip circles and states observations without questions like: is she ineffective at her job or was the environment in which she was working in hostile and disorganized? Is he a bad student, or did he have depression and anxiety the year those skill sets were taught? Is she losing it or is she exhibiting signs of dementia? IT often has no memory of why and how IT arrived to where IT is?

The next time my ego sits on a cloud, I hope that my IT grabs a parachute and works to carefully read the directions of others' winds.

I hope I recognize IT fast, as I don't want to wear IT,

I don't want to be with IT,

and I don't want to die with IT.

p.s. Yes, that's wine residue on my lips. IT was very excited about her new glasses and decided to celebrate with a new book and a glass-or-three that night.
