Kings

I said “Tata (grandpa),
please stop treating the dude-king as if he owns the world,
he can not eat only what he requests,
he can not sleep only when his eyes give up,
he can not play only with what he feels comfortable with,
he can not wake only when he only he is ready to start the day,
he can not work only on what he thinks is important.”
He replied, “oh, but he can.”
I said “Tata,
please stop feeding him cookies,
letting him decide his bed time,
giving him more cars only to watch him immediately throw them over the fence,
allowing him to roll outta bed and onto the sofa at 2 am,
agreeing ‘okay, boy when he doesn’t want to put on his own clothes, brush his own teeth, or clean up his own mess.”
He replied, “oh, but I can.”
I said “Tata,
Fine! All right! At the very least, please don’t replace his ipad again.
If we replace his ipad every time he cracks it in a fury or drowns it in a bath tub game, he is never going to learn!!!”
A few weeks later, the dude-king’s speech therapist said “I urge you to start considering using an ipad as a communication device with Dublin. He may never be able to speak or comprehend meaning in the same way that you and I do. The ipad may decrease his communication apprehension and anxiety! Don’t wait! If we wait, he will be further behind in learning what may help him bridge his communication gaps!”
…and so the dude-king and the tata-king’s legacy continues.
…the undisturbable throne.
