Evolutionarily Speaking
At his two year check-up, I asked Dublin's pediatrician what she believed causes autism.
She said "No one knows the answer to that question. Genetics? Environmental factors? Evolution?"
I don't think I've ever questioned existence as much as I did driving away from that office.
As a species, we really don't know who we are and where we are going.
Are us "atypicals" really just overtly emotional and social genetic strands that will be replaced with new evolutionary strands; new, evolutionary logics?
If these new strands can't recognize their own names, their own reflection in the mirror, will our species finally have figured out how to overcome the ego.
I don't foresee that the answer to these questions are coming any time soon.
BUT I do feel that as a teacher it is my responsibility to support all strands in their move FORWARD.
