This Whimper

20180918-whimper.jpg

Our king has developed a new whimper over the last couple of days.

One that we don't recognize.

It's new. Definitely new.

His cries are usually raspy and disagreeable, usually used to communicate that he doesn't want to do, go, or doesn't know what to say.

This whimper?

This sad-eyed, soft whimper?

No fever.

No swollen nodes.

No skin flush.

No food requests.

No play requests.

No tickle requests.

Still not enough words.

Bad memory?

Scared?

Sad?

Tired?

In pain?

Tummy hurt?

Throat hurt?

Body hurt?

He doesn't know the word pain.

He doesn't know the word hurt.

No grabbing body parts.

No one in the house knows.

One day he will know how to tell us how he is feeling, so we know, so we know how to help him.

We hope.

Until then, we lay with him as he whimpers away until he falls asleep.
