This And That

The neurologist's words--not mine:

"The good news is...your story sounds like autism. Your son has severe impairments in three areas. THIS (and now I'm paraphrasing) is why we are checking for cerebral palsy and THAT is why we are checking for spina bifida. Doubt THIS or THAT is either, but we check THIS and THAT."

My words--not the neurologist's:

"Thank you for all your help!" [to the doctor in his office]

"THIS hurts, and so does THAT." [to myself in the rear view mirror]
