Drowning

20170921-drowning.jpg

At school, at therapy, at social events,

at times,

I feel like I am actively watching my King drowning

in learning, in retention, in play,

in conversation.

My thought bubbles overflow with things he "should" know, interactions he isn't having with others, conversations he isn't having with me.

In the water, however, the only space where he can throw his anxious body into wet, forgiving, gravity, I see my King swim. I see my King breathe.
